I dug out the bailii report of the case ([Re B [1997] EWCA Civ 2190) when you (Carol) posted about it before. If that is the right case, the report says that the applicants appeared without representation from a lawyer.

You obviously felt (and feel) very strongly about it, so why did you not use lawyers? Was it lack of funds or lack of trust in lawyers?

I'm very sorry that you feel aggrieved about the situation. It will be no comfort, but a lot of lawyers also feel very aggrieved about the fact that those with limited funds now find it very hard to get state funding for legal representation. As you know, the blame for that lies with the government, not with lawyers (or the courts).
