Wow ! David Darby has got a bit of a 'bee in his bonnet' about anyone who even touches the fringes of the legal profession - methinks he might have been 'stung' in the past by a lawyer who charged him £150 p.h. and he thinks that everyone charges that. Sorry to burst your Daily Mail Reader's Comments section David but legal aid lawyers have NEVER charged that much. In fact your initial comment about £40 p.h. is pretty close to the reality although most legal aid is fixed fee now, a fee set by the Government per case and that fee has not only not had an increase since 1992 (22 years) but actually a decrease in that time. Also, David, if you think about it, the fixed fee is the same regardless of the length of case, so a lawyer is hardly likely to string a case along to make money. Sorry to ruin your BBC Eastenders view of lawyers but, plain and simple, you are wrong !! There are of course privately paid lawyers who charge by the hour but that is NOTHING to do with legal aid - back to Google please Sir and see if you can find something based on fact next time.
