I have just had some correspondence with a willwriter who has comprehensively screwed up the drafting of a will such that a rectification application will be required. Said will writer states on header that it is a member of the Society of Will Writers and on its website that it abides by the code of conduct of the Society. The letter includes this sentence:-

“You should be aware that we do not carry insurance which would contribute to any costs or loss to beneficiaries in this matter”

I have checked the code of conduct and paragraph 2.11 reads:-

“A Member shall not practice unless the Member maintains in force a professional indemnity policy with an approved insurer to a limit of at least £2 million and produces to the Society evidence that such policy is in force.”

So these kind of shysters are really going to abide by a new voluntary code aren't they? They don't even abide by the one they've opted into for marketing purposes. and what do we think the Society of Unlicensed Will Scribblers is going to do about it as and when I complain? Answers on a postcard please. Oh actually you don't need a post card for a big zero. I would laugh except it's not actually that funny
