I would rather see these figures set out as average for a criminal defence solicitor, average for a personal injury solicitor and average for a commercial solicitor. I have seen roles for newly qualified as high as £110,000, and am reliably informed by friends that criminal defence solicitors earn in the £20,000 to £25,000 bracket (though I do not know if that is true). I have seen the average pay scales for the regions, which gives a greater understanding of what an average pay is per PQE for each region, which does break it down to practice area also (though I have to be honest, I did not look at anything except my PQE and my region (Manchester).
