The SRA has no remit in Iraq and cannot investigate whatever might or might not be happening there.
We need to be clear about what regulation is for - within the jurisdiction of England and Wales the SRA is tasked with:
(a) protecting and promoting the public interest;
(b) supporting the constitutional principle of the rule of law;
(c) improving access to justice;
(d) protecting and promoting the interests of consumers;
(e) promoting competition in the provision of services within subsection (2);
(f) encouraging an independent, strong, diverse and effective legal profession;
(g) increasing public understanding of the citizen's legal rights and duties;
(h) promoting and maintaining adherence to the professional principles.
...and nothing else, not pandering to piqued ministers who don't understand that for our society to really comprehend the Rule of Law and be worth living in, even terrorists, liars, cheats and thieves have to be entitled to legal representation and a fair trial. And that doesn't automatically make those who act for them guilty by association.
