I can see no sense in the phrase "It is accepted on all hands that consolidation in the legal aid market is needed,". I certainly do not accept that. This is, as anon remarked above, part of the thrust by this government to return to the past, when the rich could get representation and results in the courts, while the poor could not. In the criminal courts they died. In the civil courts they were ruined. It is a shame to this country that legal aid and the other aspects of the welfare state are being eviscerated purely to facilitate the oppression by the rich of the poor. If this cannot be reversed, Marx's prediction of a violent class war is all too likely to be true, and Croydon will look like a Guy Fawkes bonfire compared to the carnage when Westminster burns. Guy Fawkes. The only person ever to enter Parliament with honest intent. I deeply regret that I am too old to facilitate such matters - but at least I can soon get out of what is no longer an honourable profession, but at best a venal trade.
