The MoJ believes what has been done to RTA claims can be done to criminal defence. Under 20 national providers. Plea, bail, case management and non-custodial sentencing by tick box reps and "other" text boxes. Video conferencing from Police Stations for possible custodial sentencing. Only trials will remain as "real" hearings and probably not most of them for very long.
Within a decade the national providers will use what is euphemistically referred to as AI. At first take instructions, provide advice, make reps, prep for trial, and eventually conduct trial advocacy.
It's not just us, nearly every job will be automated away much sooner than we think. A lab in the states has cracked the balance and agility problem for 2 legged robots. Shrinking the computer system and portable power are the only issues left. They won't take long to crack.
The problem with all this is, what are we going to do all day. How will we earn a living.
When the internal combustion engine replaced the horse, we all started working in new jobs created by the proliferation of that technology. But this time, we are the horse.
