There certainly seems to be a lack of balance when it comes to dealing with the HRA. The recent £500 cap one is a case in point. Fortunately the Supreme Court turned it down, but only 3-2. Neither dissenting judge (hardly a surprise one was Hale) seemed to address the societal issue of the world at large seeing that you could get more than 500 quid a week in benefits - which is higher than the Greek minimum wage for a start - and therefore flocking to the UK.

Which had actually happened in that case. One of the claimants demanding the right to live in an expensive part of London was from Belgium; the other couldn't even speak English...
