I brought this to the attention of the law society and the BBC a who reported it yesterday. Very few people seemd to know about it as the MOJ had clearly not wanted to deal with the ineviatable flack. Apart from the obvious unfairness and risk of innocent people essentially being forced into pleading guilty as they can't afford to pay an ADDITIONAL £1000 on top of everything else is the fact that the poor victims will not get a look in with any compensation as the defendant Will have no money left after the Court has taken its massive cut. Likewise the CPS won't be getting any costs and so public funds lost here and the cost of imprisoning all the defaulters will be huge as will be the cost of arresting them, processing them through the courts and the cost of legal aid to represent them. I have sent Mr Grayling an e mail pointing this out but I'm not holding my breath!
