What a load of tosh!
1. Solicitors (especially those working in inner-cities) have done & do thousands of hours of unpaid work. MK are not the only ones.
2. Not all Solicitors work on Legal Aid.
3. MK are not the only people ''passionate about the law''.
4. Your point about ''more leeway'' is an interesting one. One 'law' for MK another one for Solicitors. There is an argument to be made (and a good one) - do we actually really need Solciitors & Barristers? not really. If you can read, write & speak English to a competent level & are able to research points of law that should be enough. Back in the day I did alot of this work (wasn't called MK then) - very rewarding. (But if you don't have any other source of income won't pay the bills).
5. Its nice that you do MK work ''mostly'' unpaid. Wish you continuing success and work.
6. What I still can't understand is how misleading the name Mckenzie friend is ''friend'' . A friend (a true friend) I hope would not charge any fee.
7. ''Unholy'' act should be repealed by an Act of Parliament. Maybe it will in a hundred years time.
8. I still think the proposition of an unregulated entity operating in an open marketplace is a challenging one & I hope will be addressed by the Government. We used to similar thing with people who offered immigration services to the public in an unregulated environment - until the Government proactively created the OISC.
9. So now we have Judges, Solciitors, Barristers, Mckenzie Friends, Immigration Advisors, Licenced Conveyancers, Para-legals (list is endless). Ha ha even Gordon Ramsey may agree - menu needs to be edited!
