Having children is a life style choice. If a person wants them then that it fine but they should not expect others to feel indebted to them for helping to ensure the survival of the human species etc. For starters my genes are only interested in their continuation (and the survival of the human species is only relevant to the extend it promotes the same). Evolution no doubt is continuing and presumably humans either die out or evolve into a "better" species (ie better able to steward the Earth). There are already enough people on the planet, given the limited resources available. Those who have children should face up to the fact that they are doing it for their own selfish reasons (nothing wrong with being selfish in this instance) and not burden other people as a result of such choices by claiming any maternity or paternity rights.

Either everyone should be entitled to take time off (with a right to return to work later) in order to do something they personally feel is worthwhile (eg have children, travel round the world, watch daytime TV etc) or no one should.
