Ian Dodd: I certainly hope you're right about QASA not working, but the fact that something doesn't work has never stopped the government from implementing it before...

Paul Nicholls: It's all very strange. Solicitor advocates who recently qualified get a leg up to Level 2 & 3, but if they want to then carry on doing trials in the crown court, they have to start at Level 2 again. Older HCAs are the same as barristers, in that they have to start Level 2.

Anthony Blunt: No, because you hardly ever see McKenzie friends in criminal courts. Even if they exist, I can't imagine them acquiring rights of audience as readily as in the civil/family courts. In any event, there's nothing corrupt in trying to stop 'professional' McKenzie friends making themselves into an industry; if you want to be a lawyer, qualify, like the rest of us.
