You can't compare providing specialized legal services in numerous different jurisdictions with the routine urban business of getting a passenger from A to B.
Uber is subject to regulation in the UK and in many ways is safer than using a black cab because the user gets the driver's number, name and photo and can track the route ( and has a complete record). In London I prefer using Uber for these reasons and because they are cheaper (show me a customer who doesn't like that!) and more available late at night than black cabs. Also you don’t have to worry about carrying enough cash around to pay (or asking the black cab driver to find and wait by an ATM!). As for the argument that black cabs are more savvy because they have done the 'knowledge' – who needs that? We are now well into the 21st century and decent sat nav is ubiquitous. I hope Uber succeeds in breaking the protectionist cartels existing in Europe. This is another area (like on- line banking and mobile payments) where the consumer will vote with their feet (and should be allowed to). Going back to legal services, if there are some commoditised services such as simple will writing crowdfunding investment that can be provided by platforms then why not? Although for reasons of consumer protection and AML reasons etc. they will have to be subject to some regulation.
