What do you expect from the promulgators of Red Toryism and the Big Society? Expect it will be as successful as their proposals for a bankers' oath. And it looks as if ResPublica may have their own transparency and funding issues. Phillip Blond appears no stranger to controversy (look him up on Wiki if you're interested).

On a more serious note, suspect this is more of the Government's agenda to get us all doing more for less, rather than any genuine commitment to public spiritedness. If one was to take their recommendations seriously, I can see two possibilities. An inevitable increase in fees, or more lawyers leaving the profession.

It's a cheap pie-in-the sky sop, when what is really needed is proper funding.

I'm not in the legal aid market, but if I was, I'd find this report and its recommendations insulting.
