I believe this will prevent meritorious cases being pursued and impact justice. This is already happening as a result of the increases earlier this year.

In addition, I believe the aspiiration that fee income within the civil justice system itself should match the costs of running the system is fundamentally flawed, as it ignores all the other obvious connected income generated for the Exchequer by the provision of an efficient and accessible court service.
This other income includes
- all VAT payable by all the providers of all services linked to the court system.
- all tax paid by all litigation solicitors, barristers and all other suppliers within the litigation economy.
Insofar as fee increases deter or prevent the above services being provided there must be a consequential reduction in all these other forms of income and my belief is that the indirect effect of increasing fees will be to lose far more of this other income for the Exchequer than could ever hope to be saved within the narrow budgets of the court service alone.
