I can see benefits to going paperless, but I like my paper files too much and need something to put in the filing cabinet.

As far as hot-desking is concerned, not now and not ever. I like having my own desk and office too much. I see how agitated the secretaries become if one is off and someone has to move desks that I am not doing that myself.

I know of workers in open plan offices who hate it. There is no privacy and if you have other workers around you on the telephone it will become very noisy.

I can only imagine that the 'increased productivity' from hot desking is down to the fee earners getting into the office at the crack of dawn to make sure they get a desk in time. It would be interesting to know what happens if you turn up to the office and there are no free desks - do they give you a paid day of or make you sit on the floor in the corner of the room surrounded by the contents of your locker?

I am not sure what Ms Clegg's 'platform' is but I wonder whether it is actually a platform per se. One of my husband's colleagues has back issues and has a hydraulic desk so it can be raised up to a platform to allow you to work at a computer standing and then lowered to a normal seating desk.
