We have an adversarial system and it is no argument to suggest that State appointed experts speed up the process. In catastrophic injury cases speed is not the key. Equally the parties should have the right to select their choice of experts. I have not encountered many judges, especially Deputy HC judges who are fit to pilot cases, let alone actually understand the medical evidence clearly.
There is no need to resolve cases early until there is a reliable prognosis. Until that time there are plenty of interim provisions available.
