It's worth pointing out that the only division of opinion is among inadequately informed MPs and those who have taken how it has been spun, such as in its 'official media partner' the Telegraph, at face value.

The Bill's critics overall are too numerous to list and those who have been outspoken about the latest version include the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (on behalf of its membership), the Association of Medical Research Charities, the Medical Research Council, the BMA and patient safety charities. Additional responses have been published directly by some of these organisations - such as the Royal College of Surgeons who "unequivocally oppose" the new Bill, and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, who view it as "a sinister piece of draft legislation" which "places patients - in particular infants, children and young people - at grave risk" and "will encourage irresponsible experimentation". Cancer Research UK and other key research organisations believe it is both unnecessary and actively harmful.

This is not a Bill that divides informed opinion, and it is extraordinary, almost comically so, that the Members of Parliament proposing this legislation are seemingly unaware of the devastating and shambolic effect it will have on the current law.
