So youth jointly charged with an adult should remain in youth court, whilst the adult goes off to crown court. At that point there is then a trial in the youth court and a trial in the Crown Court. The witnesses have to go to both trials putting a greater burden on them and greater cost. Where exactly do the savings start in that over having a single trial?
