A disingenuous response.

1. The number of soft tissue claims is on the decline
2. There is no proper evidential base to show that there are large numbers of fraudulent claimant's receiving compensation.
3. If the insurers believe the claim to be fraudulent then they can defend it for £2660 + dibs.
4. It is less than honest to say the claimant can recover the costs of treatment / LOE as a litigant in person as in many cases the costs of bringing the proceedings may outweigh the amount recovered. I also am acting as a LIP id a dispute with the cowyboy builders (who thankfully are insured) who made such a mess of the job and SCT claims for LOE & specials etc isn't something joe public would be well placed to do.

And as for the government's expectation that the insurers will pass on the costs to the motorist? Deluded and naive doesn't do this justice.

The decline in motor premiums is due to fewer cars being the subject of theft and there being fewer cases of theft from motor vehicle (+ underwriting facts outwith the specific market factors) i.e. low interest rates.

Let's be honest, the only way of getting some sense into Osborne's head is to demonstrate the losses to the Exchequer.

A reduction in car insurance premiums of £1.5Bn = loss of IPT of £142,500,000

A reduction in legal fees of £8bn (combined cl and defendant allowing for delegated authority in defendant work) will equate to a a loss of £1Bn VAT

The redundancies will result in a loss of employer's NI of £275,000,000

The loss of IPT on ATE will be another £75,000,000

The loss of recoverable NHS charges and CRU will be another £50,000,000

The costs of the redundancies will be another £2.5Bn

There will be the loss of £1.5Bn to HMCTS due to fewer cases and reduced fees.

FFS you're supposed to be reducing the deficit and building a sound and robust economy not blindly following the nonsense spouted by some well known insurers.

(And my figures although calculated on the back of a packet of fags are way more accurate than the ones relied on by the insurance lobby)
