there are indeed interesting areas of law, but many people won't be able to get employment in them, experience being a prime consideration when taking on staff.

Also re-training entails some capital outlay, and interruption of income....few can afford it due to family commitments and suchlike.

No, the real problem, as many of us always understood, was the promotion of law as an ever expanding profession where good money was to be had by most, not just some. The Law Society was particularly at fault here, as were the "educational institutions", both of whom, no doubt, looked at the benefits and money they would receive (and did!)
