It's worth taking a look at one of their `colleagues' - http://www.the-will-lady.co.uk/pages_8/probateservicehull

This just shows the sort of weasel words that can be employed by people who aren't regulated at all:

"Fees for full estate administration are based on a percentage of the estate value and therefore notified in advance, unlike some other providers who charge an hourly rate, often exorbitantly."

OK, so how do the percentage fees compare with hourly rates?

"The most remarkable aspect of this service is the cost - an extremely competitive rate of 1.5% of the estate value up to £500,000; 1% thereafter (minimum charge applies)."

Well I'd certainly agree that it's remarkable. It equates to £7,500 for a £500,000 estate, which might consist of a couple of bank accounts that need to be closed. If we allow a generous 10 hours' work at most, that's a very handy £750 per hour. It certainly beats working as a solicitor.

But do CLS not consider that exorbitant? I think we should be told.

And I was incensed by the absurd and insulting accusation that "solicitors can often charge around 5% for their services."

So that would be £25k for the same estate. This is just a blatant lie, and if this is the way CLS choose to do business it makes a joke of the Co-Op's supposedly `ethical' approach.

But of course it's very easy to make such grossly inaccurate assertions when there's no pesky regulator to slap you down.
