@ArthurRobinson 0105 pm: I don't disagree with anything you say. But I was interested when you said "There will be a huge number of online advisers and drafters of documents making a buck out of peddling snake oil and "100% guaranteed fully effective" template pleadings/ case statements." I guess I'm a document drafter, but no snake oil, no guarantees, and no templates, just circumstances-sensitive pleadings and skeletons drafted without human intervention by web services. Ironically I developed the technology to leverage my time for pro bono/access-to-justice purposes years ago. Now it looks like I'll finally have to deploy it commercially when I get past a more important project I'm doing. Admittedly it works much better for easy black-letter-law stuff like say consumer contract disputes or data protection injunctive relief than for nasty beasts like most torts (though it does surprisingly well on unlawful means conspiracy), but I guess you have to start somewhere. Such technologies won't eliminate the need for lawyers, just increase the demand for judges. I always thought if everyone studied a few years of law the country rapidly would become ungovernable, so I wonder if inadvertently delivering justice would be seen as a huge own goal by government?
