An independent regulator would give the profession what it really needs - a Law Society which is an active advocate supporting the profession and getting stuck into government over issues which affect its members. Its role as regulator has stopped it from from truly criticising the way that government has acted in personal injury claims, criminal legal aid, and access to justice, amongst others. We really need the Law Society to be a trade body more than a regulator.
