The Times today reports that motor insurance premiums have risen on average by £100 in four months. The ABI is reported as saying the rise is due to the increase in IPT "combined with a fresh campaign by unscrupulous companies trying to encourage dishonest whiplash claims." So fraud is still being used as an argument, although now to support a rise in premiums.

If CMCs are knowingly perpetrating fraud, wouldn't it make more sense for insurers to resist iffy claims and expose the fraudsters to criminal prosecution? Perhaps defendant lawyers suggested that? If so, I wonder why insurers decided not to accept the advice?
