The Jackson reforms of 2013 promised that the cuts in solicitors costs and the recovery of ATE premiums from Claimant's rather than Defendants would result in a saving to all motorists who see a reduction in their premiums.

The result was not a cut in premiums.

As someone with a small sensible green car and 13 years no claims, my premium went up by almost 100% in February. Since LASPO came in in 2013, I have not seen the alleged reduction in car insurance. It wouldn't surprise me if the £50 reduction hasn't ended up being swallowed by the sale of motor legal expenses policies, promoted as a way to ensure 100% of damages being paid out! Give with one hand, take with the other!!!!

The Jackson reforms benefited no-one but the insurer. The number of solicitors that lost their jobs after the introduction of LASPO is unacceptable and whilst I applaud the MOJ in taking steps to assess the impact of the hike in the small claims track limit for personal injury, I fear that it is far too little, too late.

I predict more solicitors will lose their jobs and claimants will be even less able to access justice.
