I don't know about others, but I am on what I consider a reasonable income, but, if I was injured in a car accident and suffered whiplash injuries sufficient to impact my life for 12-24 months or so, £1000- £5000 is still a lot of money to me. Regardless of loss of earnings, the impact of pain and suffering has far wider reaching consequences on a person's life. Turning up to work and just about managing is very different to having the energy and drive to give it 100%. As well all know, many claims with a potentially low value, can end up worth significantly more if recovery does not take place as anticipated. I had a client with a fractured toe which could have been settled for a few thousand pounds, but eventually, he lost his leg as a result, and the case settled for £750,000 (after the insurers helpfully offered £2,000 to start with, and just £30,000 when they realised that he was going to lose his leg). These reforms do not cater for the unexpected, which I have seen all too frequently.
