There are 2 separate issues, whether or not there is any justification for this huge increase and the funding of it in individual cases.
There is little to be gained by confusing the two as the second is easily solved. If the balance in the deceased's bank account is sufficient to pay the fee the Bank should advance the money as Banks do now for funeral costs and care home fees. If not payment of the fee should not be payable until sale of any real property or other assets that cannot be realised without Probate.
Acceptance of this would enable those, like me, who consider thia, and many other increases in Court fees, as totally unacceptable to concentrate on the unacceptability.
