David, you're quite right as usual. The level of government borrowing is unsustainable and had to be reduced. But Gordon Brown-style stealth taxes like on 'Middle England' (and 'Middle Wales') should be a last resort. I would start by looking at current levels of government spending, and in particular the foreign aid budget and the millions of pounds a day that we pay for the privilege of being a member of the EU.
