I have had to deal with a McFriend. It was awful. I think his legal advice came from an American who had read the first 10 pages of a trusts book (for American law). He handed me a three inch thick file of papers as we were going in to the final hearing. I kid you not, he advised his "client" to "gift" his substantial debt to the creditor because someone found that you can gift a trust - so this weird document (I have no idea what it was meant to be) purported to create what they thought was a trust for the debts that they owed and gifted that trust to the creditor. I was rather pleased I had a very wonderful DJ - she dealt with it with virtually nothing from me. The problem is, instead of settling the case early by reaching an agreement, this guy had been led an 18 month merry dance by some wazzock who was getting bits of advice on-line from someone who clearly thought they were Perry Mason. I weigh that up against the fact that legal aid is gone and people who are not very bright or are easily terrified are in effect receiving no help when faced with trials that must seem terrifying to them. Because of some very bad eggs everyone who needs it (because there are some wonderful McFriends) losses out and I am not sure that is fair, but equally I think Woolfe and Jackson need to now apologise to the Judges faced with LiPs that terrorise the court system.
