I don't think I went quite that far, Deborah, but it was not a bad lesson I was taught when told not to bring a claim unless personally satisfied that cogent evidence existed to support what my client was claiming, both on liability and quantum. Yes, estimates could go up or down as more evidence appeared, experts met, etc etc., bit I never brought a claim, or continued with one, I had good evidence for believing in.

But in those days there were only 20,000 solicitors and two thousand barristers. Now there are 130,000 and 10,000 respectively...
