Indeed, law is a social science. However, I have not noticed that there is a lack of demand for those with social science skills, in other words, the ability to relate to, and understand fellow humans and their very human problems.
To take a very current example, how could the Hillsborough result have been achieved other than use of those skills? I cannot see IT doing that within any meaningful timescale.
Yes, IT can come to a decision as to whether a rule or regulation has not been complied with; it cannot decide the reason behind it, whether that reason is good or bad, whether the person in breach understands...the list is endless.
IT cannot decide if a restrictive covenant is valid, if a deed is properly executed, if the client is compos mentis...again the list is endless.
Or to put it plainly, IT is not human, it is not us, and it never will be.
