It is no wonder we are finding it so hard to take this seriously. It's not like many, many firms don't follow the developments in technology already, and adapt accordingly, but asserting over and over that we'll be replaced/swallowed up by the technology? I simply don't buy it.

The AI will only be as good as the mind designing it... and nothing beats a sympathetic ear, and human interaction that puts a distressed client (oops, should I have said consumers instead) at ease in difficult times, and the advice based on specific facts of the cases rather than automatic responses based on codes.
