Anon at 1.32 - although it may be galling, the contract between solicitor and counsel requires payment even if the solicitor has not been paid. It's a bit like going to the supermarket to shop for yourself and your mates, taking the goods and then refusing to pay because the people you're going to feed with those goods haven't paid you their share. The supermarket has no contract with your mates, just like Counsel has no contract with your client.
