Clearly there remains a role for the professional McKenzie Friend.

The 'Standard Form' of Notice to the Court has been in place for some time but is something I have used for many years - as advised by the Practice Guidance issued in 2010 for McKenzie Friends.

As for the extremely poor understanding demonstrated by the legal profession, judiciary and courts; the Right of Audience and the Right to Litigate are enshrined in the Legal Services Act and are reserved occupations.

It is for the Court to exercise their power to curb any 'abuse' as they see fit.

Many McKenzie Friends are also Paralegals. I would hope that the newly established Professional Paralegal Register with it's regulatory role, code of conduct and practice certificate would help identify established McKenzie Friends.

My only issue with this debate is the proposal to rename McKenzie Friends to 'Court Supporter' - a dreadful name which sounds more like a football fan.
