Shaun no abuse is needed. We need to be dispassionate. If sentencing is found to be unfair (unjust) based on gender, sexual orientation etc shouldn't light be shed on this issue and it appropriately addressed? Criminals should be impartially punished. Therefore we should all strive to eradicate any judicial bias found. No group, male or female, rich or poor, able or disabled, should be treated more or less favourably. Hence I was dismayed by the initial sentence received by Oscar Pistorious which in my view was partly due to judicial sympathy regarding his disability (not an E&W case but it still resonates). Justice is compromised unless there is fairness and impartiality.
