Lawyers provide fixed costs quotes upfront before doing any work in many service areas. If it is a service area where that is not achievable either because the amount of time that will be necessary to do a reasonable job cannot be ascertained, a costs range is certainly provided. The charges are transparent and the clients are in complete control. Keep saying it is not done does not make it true. Misleading and inaccurate statements are divisive to the intended purchasers of legal services and can result in them being "driven into the arms of charlatans" in the mistaken belief that they are cheaper. The quangos and commentators need to stop paying lip-service to the populist view but do their jobs properly!
