Yes, it's an exemplary judgment in terms of its clarity, but it's also a vivid illustration of where the money is really being spent in the justice system.

A dopey mother has 4 kids by two lowlife fathers, is too stupid and irresponsible to look after them properly, so the taxpayer ends up funding a farrago like this involving an 8 day hearing with 4 firms of solicitors and, no fewer than NINE barristers, 4 of whom are QC's.

Why on earth did they need even one QC, let alone 4 of them? The issues weren't that complex, and it's just a gross waste of public money.

How much would an exercise like this have cost? Of course none of the people involved give a stuff, because it's all provided courtesy of the rest of us.

Yet if an ordinary, decent, working man becomes involved in a legal dispute through no fault of his own the justice system says "Sorry, we can't afford to grant you legal aid" and he's thrown to the wolves.

It's a disgracefully skewed system, favouring the feckless and the criminal over people who actually make an effort to live decent lives.
