I appreciate your candour, Mr Cockshutt. I've no doubt at all that a very large proportion of the 48 per cent of Remainders, like yourself, voted for the status quo merely because they saw it as the safest option. Positive enthusiasm for the "European Idea" was minimal throughout the referendum campaign, as indeed it has been in this country for the last 40-odd years. We Leavers, on the other hand, were content to face even severe economic consequences if only we could help to extricate our country from this monumental blind-alley. That is why we are not at all perturbed to be told that the pound has lost 2 cents against the dollar or that our erstwhile "partners" are invoking the terrors of the earth against us. The world (and I hope you too) will in time come to see that we were right.
