"One whiplash claim is paid out every 60 seconds." My maths isn't brilliant, but isn't that 31.5m payouts a year? In 2013 there were 61.5m of us, so that's roughly half the population who receive whiplash payouts every year.

Is this remotely plausible? How does it tie in with the number of accidents (OK, a bus equals one accident, but perhaps 50 claims).

I have nothing to do with PI claims (and hope I never will have) but the numbers thrown about in the various articles don't make obvious sense. Is it coloratura by the insurers, or are most of my neighbours practised fraudsters?
