You go to a CCMC and get your budget approved, you may think you have done quite well, trouble is you don't know you until the case is finished.

You go back to the office and just get on with the case. If you have used up your budget and the court rings you, or the defendants write a letter that needs a response do you say 'no sorry I can't deal with this until I apply to increase my budget' (which probably won't be granted)? Course not, you just deal with it because professional obligations and courtesy demand it.

Until it is judicially acceptable for us to stop working when we have reasonably exhausted a budget phase (which is unlikely to be increased) we are always going to get caught out.
