Ah, litigants in person! When practising regularly in the County Court (mostly property related stuff) I reckoned they generally added 50% to the cost of the action, contributed to by the court generally bending over backwards to let the LIP have a fair hearing. I recall one LIP who made exactly the same application to I think 4 different district judges in 4 different courts (3 refusals and then an order she liked - obtained ex parte and later set aside at yet more expense).

Unsurprising this phenomenon has now affected the higher judiciary, for the reasons others have noted.
