I think a lot of SPs are becoming consultants because giving away their practices in return for avoiding run-off cover is the only way they can see to get out of this 'profession'. It isn't a profession, of course, unless you include travelling salesmen, road sweepers, bin men and sewage farm workers in that definition. The President of LS should take a look in the mirror and, whilst holding his nose, have a close look at the mess his once august organisation has presided over. Waifs and strays? SPs are, or at least were, the few who had the backbone to stand on their own two feet. The few of them who are left are the strongest, or those who cannot afford the extortionate cost of run-off cover, nor find a larger firm to take them over. A friend of mine once said that the only way out he could see was in a box.
