The problem is not for consumers / clients to have access to pricing information or to compare it across the board - the problem is that they cannot easily locate a law firm or legal adviser in the first place. The problem facing anyone seeking advice is where to start with finding the right firm to do the work. Only after an extremely lengthy exercise in batting off Google ads on the internet, digging through yellow pages, asking friends, reading articles and spending hours trawling through websites does the consumer begin to have some idea of services on offer and hourly rates - which, by themselves, don't explain what the work will cost. Thus, the CMA is applying a simplistic solution to a complex problem.
