I'm happy to say I've thrown my hat the ring. Let's wait and see what happens. I'll be in the states on the second stage of the process, so hope I can find a decent wi-fi connection.

I readily accept that the quota of solicitor applicants will be less than Barrister applicants, but take the view that I will have a 0% chance if I don't apply.

The 30 day sitting requirement may exclude a lot of Solicitors from applying, thankfully I'm lucky with that, being a partner.

Our local Law Society in Birmingham was excellent, reminding us of this competition some weeks ago - and putting on a free seminar that was enormously helpful. It's great that the Gazette have picked up on this too.

I take the view that Solicitor Recorders - particularly those who utilise their advocacy rights, are a great addition to the judiciary.
