Having read the press reports, I am not sure how the petition can have failed unless it was spectacularly badly pleaded. I fail to see how anyone can be forced to remain in a marriage where they are treated in that way by their spouse. This has nothing to do with the lack of sanctity of marriage and more to do with basic human rights to expect a certain level of respectful treatment. If he'd treated his dog in that way there'd be a bloody uproar or my name isn't Aunt Sally
