Speaking from the very sobering experience of funding my daughter's divorce to the tune of over £30,000 from a violent, wealthy husband whose answer to everything was to throw money at it, [it cost him well over £40,000 to lose] the cost of family breakdown is indeed appalling both financially and emotionally. However, most couples do not fight, and thereby incur costs, over the divorce - they fight over the children, property, and even the family dog. It is this element that needs reform perhaps more than the mechanics of rending asunder the parties' hitherto legal status of marriage.
