My background is central European refugee. When I was a child my parents leaned on elderly relations, whose native language was German, to speak English in my presence, so as to include me. But from seven up I learnt German and became fluent in it and then the pressure was on me to speak German in their presence, the better to include them.

If there is only one language which all present on any occasion speak it is disrespectful to speak any other language. It is telling somebody that "you are no really here". And that includes Welsh in Wales.
