Judges have immense power and influence, and a huge responsibility to act fairly and impartially.

They are relatively well-rewarded for this by decent salaries and pensions; and - at least the higher echelons - receive the benefits of great office in the shape of knighthoods and peerages.

The downside of all this is having to accept that they cannot always be popular.

So, with great respect M'Luds, work on being respected for your wisdom and good judgment, remain silent, and leave mass popularity to media "personalities" who do much but achieve little.
