How on earth did the SRA and the Law Society allow it to become commonplace for solicitors to compromise their independence, with buyers' solicitors dancing to a tune played by the seller?

This is a massive scandal. It must be sorted out, and quickly. And there should be an investigation into how the regulators failed to act until now.

By the way, the practice of firms acting for borrower and lender on the same transaction should also be ended.
